eBook Week!

Read an E-book Week is this week! According to Teri Thackston, “Ebooks will never completely replace traditional printed books, but they offer a great option. Environmentally friendly, inexpensive, convenient, they come in all genres. Whether you read them on your computer, laptop, PDA, cell phone or dedicated ebook reader, why not try an ebook… this week?”

In honor of the fact that I just got the Kindle app for my iPhone, here are some eBooks by the Heart of Carolina Romance Writers. Have fun!

I Bid One American by Amy CorwinI Bid One American by Amy Corwin
She’s an American heiress nobody wants; he’s a Duke every woman is after. When Nathaniel, Duke of Peckham, meets Charlotte, he’s suspicious of her indifference. Too many women have sought—and failed—to catch him. However, Charlotte is more interested in dead pharaohs than English dukes. Her pretended immunity vanishes, however, when a debutante seeking to entrap Nathaniel gets murdered. All too soon, his reputation as a misogynist makes him a suspect, and Charlotte impulsively comes to his aide. Unfortunately, both are unaware that a highwayman interested in rich heiresses is following Charlotte. And that another debutante lies dead in Nathaniel’s carriage. Some nights just don’t go as planned.

Lou Smith would be the first to admit that she’s the luckiest woman on the face of the earth. She lives on a farm where manners matter and the farm hands all come to eat when the dinner bell rings. Life is comfortable… so comfortable that it seems almost too easy. But Lou comes with a past, one that she will be forced to face, or die trying.

Lou’s early years were never easy. She lived a life of poverty and depravity, never staying in one place for very long. She grows up quickly when she suddenly becomes a mother and is thrust into the world alone. She resolves to try to un-live the life that her mother lived. And it seems to be easy to avoid sex, love, and danger. It’s easy until she meets Brody Wester, that is.

A Writing Update (Sorta)

Yeah, I’m still calling myself a writer, even though it’s been quite a while since I’ve actually done any writing. In fact, my last manuscript was completed in November 2007. Yeah, I suck.

But, mostly to make myself feel better, I’m posting the stuff I have done lately:

January 12, 2008 – Sent Shooting Stars to Silhouette Desire (Rejected)
November 29, 2008 – Sent Shooting Stars to Ellora’s Cave/Cerridwen (Pending)
January 24, 2009 – Sent Shooting Stars to Loose Id (Rejected)
March 3, 2009 – Sent Shooting Stars to Liquid Silver Books (Pending)

So, see? I’m doing stuff. Kinda. So my goal for the rest of the year is to submit something every other month. That means that when Shooting Stars is submittable no more, and everyone on the planet has looked at it and rejected it, I’ll need to have something new ready to submit. Which means I’d better get crackin’, because I’m running out of places to send it. :)

Oh, and if you’re wondering how I’m keeping track of all these submissions, check out Writer’s Database. It’s a great, simple tool for tracking stuff related to writing, and I love it.

How about you? Any writing goals for the year?

The S List

My mother-in-law did a B List a few months ago, inspired by Oprah’s O List. So here’s my S List, partially comprised of dorky software things and partially comprised of stuff the rest of you might care about. (Disclaimer: I’m not getting paid to talk about any of this stuff, but some of the links are Amazon Associate links and will give me a kickback if you purchase something via the link.)

TweetDeck – I’m a big dork, and I use Twitter a lot. TweetDeck is the best Twitter desktop app I’ve found. It offers much more functionality than the Twitter web interface, and it helps me keep track of everything, and pull out the information I really need to see, like replies, tweets from the most important people in my life, and mentions of my name or my company name.

Ping.fm – I realize that not everyone is on Twitter. But the rest of you are on Facebook. (And, really, if you don’t have a Twitter or a Facebook page, how am I supposed to keep in touch with you, huh? Get on the bus!) So, in order to keep both my Twitter followers and my Facebook followers updated on my latest stati, I use ping.fm. Check it out, it’s the coolest.

iPhone – And guess what! Today the launch of Amazon Kindle app for the iPhone makes it way cooler. Srsly. My book budget is going to get blown clear out of the water because of this thing. Anyway, the best thing about the iPhone is that it’s everything in one: PDA, paper agenda, notes, camera, address book, mobile computer, and eBook reader. I carry one tiny little device that does everything.

Wine saver – I don’t know about you, but I can’t (or shouldn’t) drink a whole bottle of wine at one time. But I hate trying to stick the cork back in, which doesn’t really work anyway. The solution: the wine saver. It even gets the air out so you can leave your red wine sitting out at room temperature for a few days. You’ll earn back what you spend on it by your savings on all the wine you don’t have to dump down the sink. (That’s how I justified it, anyway.)

Boys, look away. This next one is just for the girls.

The Diva Cup – I won’t go into great detail here for fear of grossing out the boys who didn’t listen to me and kept on reading, but click the link if you wanna know.

Ok, boys, it’s safe to come back now.

The Hairagami – (What, I said it was safe to come back, not interesting.) It is darn hard to make a good bun that stays in all day long with a rubber band and a ton of bobby pins. The Hairagami is very, very easy, doesn’t take much practice, and looks great every time. Can’t go wrong, especially if you need a slick, neat hairstyle for the military or waitressing or whatever.

Mint.com – If you’ve used mint.com in the past, try it again. There have been some vast improvements recently, and it’s really almost good enough that I’m willing to get rid of Quicken. I hold on to Quicken for the moment because my mortgage stuff isn’t quite worked out in mint.com yet, but once it is, Quicken is ditched. Mint.com is awesome and free. Check it out.

That’s all I’ve got for now. So what’s on your list? Like any of my list products? Hate any of them? Leave it in the comments!
