Helpful Stuff: The Best Free iPhone Apps

By request of Joanna, who just got a new iPhone, here are the free iPhone apps I use the most:

  • The Weather Channel- The Weather app that comes preloaded on the iPhone is ok, I guess, but The Weather Channel app has a lot more functionality.
  • Ping.fm- Just a mobile site, so not an app per se, but it’s great if you want to update Twitter, Facebook, and whatever other social networks you’re using in one fell swoop.
  • Brightkite- My favorite social location-based thing to play with. You can also set it up to update your Twitter feed and Facebook status when you post.
  • Mile Marker- This is also a web-based app, but it’s super cool. I love being able to track my mileage easily and without digging around for a notebook and a functional pen in my car every time I fill up.
  • OpenTable- Make restaurant reservations without calling anyone.
  • PhoneFlix- Netflix app
  • ATM Hunter- Find an ATM near you.

That ought to be enough to get you started! How about you? What are your favorite iPhone apps? Leave ‘em in the comments.
