My New Hobby: Sleeping

Well, your new hobby would be sleeping, too, if you had a bed like I have. Over our holiday break, we decided to replace our mattress (which was Robbie’s before we got married). It had a crater in the middle. You know what I’m talking about: you both roll to the center and end up cuddling whether you want to or not…

So we bought a Tempurpedic. It had pretty much been the front runner ever since we slept on one at the Benson Hotel in Portland and looooved it. I can never sleep in hotels, but I SLEPT on that thing.

So, of course, I had to buy a new quilt for the bed, too. And new sheets. And pillows. And a fuzzy blanket. And new pajamas. What? I have priorities, ok?

Besides, the dog got the old comforter (which she’d halfway destroyed from sleeping on our bed anyway), and she loves it. And she sleeps there now instead of on our bed. That was worth it right there.

  • Sweet! You get your sleeping space back and the dog's happy too. It looks great, btw.

I was inspired to address my own bedroom woes over break, too — we'd been using twin sized sheets and blankets on our queen sized mattress for YEARS. Yes, we're nuts. And yes, that phase of our marriage is happily over. I bought a queen comforter and quilt (mine's brown too!). Happy happy me!

  • I want a tempurpedic bed. I really, really do.

    Your bedding looks sumptuous.

  • Congrats on your new bedroom stuff! 🙂 It's always a nice feeling to get something like that done. I think you don't realize how much you put up with until you don't have to put up with it anymore!

  • Thanks! We looooove it, as mentioned. 🙂 I always thought their ads with the girl jumping up and down next to a glass of wine were kind of dumb, and I'm not sure that's the biggest selling point of the mattress either. It's just really comfy, whether it transfers motion or not (which it doesn't– the commercials are true).

I really want a new mattress. And a bed frame (we have none). Maybe we'll see about saving up for that. I want a good one this time, not the cheapest thing possible.

  • Yep! A lesson learned from my husband: Never buy something cheap and say you'll get a better one later, because you won't.

Sounds Great!, Where did you get your mattress from and what kind of temperpedic is it- b/c it sounds wonderful – and Joel and I need a new one too:)
Don't they have a lot of different kind of temperpedics?…… Educate me;)
Glad you're getting some great sleep, it really makes for a good day if you've had a good night.

  • You can check out the different kinds of Tempurpedics at . We got this one:… We like it because the foam is a little more responsive than on the other ones. (But they're all nice.) Some people really do not like foam beds at all, so be sure to try them out in the store first. We bought ours at Mattress Firm, but Tempurpedics are price-controlled so it doesn't really matter where you buy one– should be the same price everywhere.

    Thanks Sonja!

  • I don't know if it's the darkness of the days or the cold, but I completely agree…I'd just rather sleep through it. Wonder if I'm part bear? Hmm. Anyway, lovely bedroom. 🙂

  • Moira, I definitely know what you mean. The cold makes it EVEN HARDER to get out of bed. 🙂

  • I love your bedding set. It looks really comfortable.
