Did You Watch The Grammys?

I did. You didn’t miss much. Here’s my Twitter stream from the night:

The Zac Brown Band just got a new fan. Their opening number was awesome, and I generally can’t stand too much for patriotic songs.

I did not know an acoustic guitar could make that sound. Awesome.

@becs1017 They need to autotune Taylor. Poor thing. #Grammys

@pinkpodster I think it’s more the pitch than the strength. Ugh. Pretty awful. #grammys

@ellenlynch I just said, “Oh, TAYLOR!” with a tone of disgust. (#grammys ) Should probably watch #Emma instead. ;) (more…)

Summer TV Shows That Don’t Suck

If you’re like me, you get a little sad when your season finales start piling up. No more new How I Met Your Mother or The Big Bang Theory until fall, and that’s a long way away! But, fear not, looks like there’s some good stuff in store for this summer:

So You Think You Can Dance (playing on Fox)

Hands down, my favorite summer TV show ever, and way on up there in the top 10 list of best shows, period. Love this show!

True Blood (June 14 on HBO)

I don’t get HBO, so I’ll probably be watching this next summer, when the DVDs come out, but I’ve been enjoying the Season 1 DVDs for the past few weeks. Should be a good one!

Glee preview (see it on Fox.com)

This one doesn’t come out until fall, but you can catch the pilot preview of it on Hulu or Fox. I really enjoyed it, but then, I was in show choir in high school, so I guess it might not be for everyone.

So what are you looking forward to on TV this summer?

Sane, But Overwhelmed

Things going on right now:

“Cat in the Mist” got its first review, which is a 5-star (or 5-book in this case) from The Long And The Short Of It. The money quote: “… if you enjoyed the romance between Buffy and Angel (Buffy the Vampire Slayer), you’ll enjoy this one–only instead of vampires it’s critters.” Ok, that kind of makes it sound furry and creepy, but it’s not, I promise. And anything that links my story to the genius that is Buffy the Vampire Slayer is ok by me.

It snowed last night somewhere, but not at our house. Robbie sent a picture. This is the second Valentine’s Day snow I ever remember, the first taking place in Southern California in about third grade. The fact that it was snowing AT ALL in Southern California was enough to make me remember it.

I like the blonde chick in the red dress who cried on American Idol last night. I hope she wins. She reminds me of Natasha Beddingfield, who kicks much butt, except when she wears weird futuristic feathery space suits in public.

And, as the title of this blog suggests, I am sane, but overwhelmed, and moving more and more into the overwhelmed and away from the sane every day. There is laundry up to my ears, I haven’t paid the bills, my desk at work is a mess, and my mom’s birthday was Monday and I still haven’t gotten her a present. I suck and refuse to be overwhelmed anymore. So there. (Does it work to just declare that you refuse to be overwhelmed, or do you actually have to do something about it? I’ll report back.)

Double Holiday Weekend

I am so sleepy today I can barely move. Isn’t exercise supposed to give you MORE energy? I guess I can’t blame it completely on exercise, since I got very little sleep last night due to the dog standing by my side of the bed and whining because it was raining. (And rain means the potential for thunder, and she might possibly have to be scared because there is potential thunder, and therefore she whines. I don’t know, it’s dog logic.)

But, despite the fact that I am very sleepy, I am filled with an unholy jubilation because this weekend is a Double Holiday Weekend!

“Holidays? What holidays?” Sonja’s readership mutters.

Super Bowl commercials cartoonThe first one is, obviously, the Super Bowl. Now I know it’s technically a sporting event and not a holiday, but when this many people celebrate the same thing at the same time by doing relatively the same activities, it’s a holiday by default. Also, there is usually family togetherness, as in our case, since we are traveling to Robbie’s parents’ house to watch the game on their ginormous new 1080p with surround sound. (The rule is, “He with the biggest, newest TV hosts the Super Bowl party.” We’re off the hook this year.)

Bill Murray in Groundhog DayThe second holiday (although technically the first, since it falls before the Super Bowl) is Groundhog Day! I think it’s very sad when Groundhog Day falls on a Saturday because the only people who really give a hoot about Phil the groundhog are school kids whose teachers make a big deal out of it… and great fans of Bill Murray. But this one technically is a holiday, so it’s going in the list of holidays to celebrate this weekend.

So happy Double Holiday Weekend to you! Hope Phil predicts blue skies, and your favorite team wins the Super Bowl.
